Overview
EMET Technologies ("EMET," "we," "our," or "us") builds technology that enables physical products to unlock digital experiences. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the EMET app, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.
We believe in being direct. Here is what we collect and why.
What We Collect
Scan Events
When you scan a physical object using the EMET app, we record:
Which product was scanned (identified by a marker ID)
The date and time of the scan
Your device type (iOS or Android)
Your approximate location (country and city, derived from your IP address)
A session identifier (a random string generated for each scan session)
We collect this information to provide brand partners with aggregated analytics about how their products are being experienced — for example, how many times a product has been scanned and in which regions.
On-Device Storage
The EMET app stores a list of products you have unlocked locally on your device using iOS UserDefaults. This information never leaves your device and is not transmitted to our servers.
What We Do Not Collect
We do not collect your name, email address, or any account information
We do not collect payment information
We do not collect precise GPS location — only approximate city/country level
We do not track you across other apps or websites
We do not use your data for advertising purposes
We do not sell your data to third parties
How We Use Your Information
To provide the service: Scan events are used to deliver the correct digital experience when you scan an EMET-enabled product.
To provide analytics to brand partners: Brand partners who use EMET can see aggregated scan data for their products: total scans, device types, and regional distribution. This data is aggregated and does not identify individual users.
To improve the product: We may use aggregated, anonymized scan data to understand how the app is being used and improve the experience.
Data Sharing
We share aggregated, anonymized scan analytics with brand partners for their own products only. A brand partner can see data about scans of their products: not data from other brands' products and not data that identifies individual users.
We do not sell personal information to third parties.
We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users or the public.
Data Retention
Scan event data is retained for up to 24 months. On-device data (your unlocked products list) remains on your device until you delete the app.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
Request information about what data we hold related to your device
Request deletion of scan event data associated with your device's session identifiers
Opt out of location collection by disabling location services for the EMET app in your device settings

Children's Privacy
The EMET app is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the product evolves. We will update the Effective Date at the top of this page when changes are made. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
